Initial Shock and Awe
Fraud Effects come abruptly,
usually while you were busy
with life and doing other things
so it can be very disorienting.

When fraud happened to me, I could not find victim support help of any kind. I needed the knowledge to understand what was happening to me, what could or was about to happen to me, what was potentially going to happen to my future and the ever important knowledge of what should I be doing to help myself in the aftermath of fraud. I was led to believe by the bank manager, who treated and spoke to me like I was adolescent scum, that I was the worst criminal since Al Capone and I was going immediately to jail if I didn't come up with her $20,000.00 right away. With this woman's nasty rhetoric as my only guide and real knowledge being so illusive, I felt as though life was no longer worth living. I do not want anyone else to fall under this emotional train without a lifeline because you might really do something irrevocably rash. So this is the knowledge that I publish here.

Like everyone else in this world, you are busy making ends meet when the Fraud freight train hits you. For long enough you can't even comprehend what went terribly wrong and are reeling in a need to know how, what, why, where, when all this could happen. With your head spinning, you slowly come to realize you are a victim of fraud. You are really messed up. Your mind is racing and you cannot function. You are immobile and you are SCARED! You may never have been in a state like this before, and yet, your life of other important things is unstoppably going on and you don't even have the time to entertain such a trip to Fraud Country. Pressure is mounting and it feels like Armageddon!

It was a knockout punch and this is the disorientation you are feeling but the last thing you need right now is to lose you health or your faculties that would prevent you from defending yourself. So your first priority is to get centered and RELAX. Be assured that after the abrupt news that you have been victimized, absolutely nothing is going to happen so quickly from here on in. As a matter of fact, you are likely to lament that the process to resolve this and get on with regular life is too painfully slow. So you now have plenty of time to get calm, recover your thinking power and take this in stride. Even though you feel that you have stepped off the known world and are falling into the abyss, it is not the end of the world as you may think. (I know that that line is very difficult to believe at this point in your process but trust in your knowledge of government and law, it operates like a snail at bedtime.) You really do have time for the luxury of calm thinking.

While you investigate and learn more about your circumstance you need do start a to-do list. This is to keep you from whirling from detail to detail like an out of control spinning top. The first objective is to intellectually walk through all the details creating the appropriate questions and a list of potential people or agencies where you can go calmly and ask your questions. Avoid going emotionally off half cocked to confront anyone, this is a mistake, as I regret having alienated sources of information because I did not take the time to assume calm composure. Asking questions should not look or feel like interrogation or blame seeking. So, I highly recommend thinking things through very deeply before venturing out to investigate. You have the time to collect your thoughts into a clear self-control and compose the best plan of action to pursue your case, use it.

Only you with a clear head, who is privy to all that has happened in leading up to this fraud can unravel all of this and begin to see what to do. It is important that you take the time to calmly review everything that has happened in detail. Make notes! You need to pretend you are a lawyer and imagine what must be required in a defense case file. What you need now is the best damn details on everything that has led up to this fraud, in order to prove that you were indeed duped and not an accomplice to the crime. Make a Journal. You need to write a chronological journal of how all of this developed, with dates and times from your daytimer or scheduler if possible or other reasons for establishing timing markers. You need to gather all correspondence and transactions of letters or emails etc., or any other evidence of your communications with the perpetrators. Make duplicate files or floppies or CD's of everything and put the originals safely away.

Put aside the fear and anxiety, you need a clear head to consider the facts and gather evidence to prove you are a victim and not a coconspirator of fraud!
